Stephen Jones
Professional Biography
Stephen Jones has a general civil practice, with particular emphasis on property related work. He is currently the Head of the Pump Court Chambers specialist Property Team. He has appeared in a number of significant reported cases concerning commercial leases, including Capital and City Holdings v Dean Warburg Ltd (1989), William Hill (Southern) Ltd v Waller & Russell (1991), Fox v Widley & Guram (1998) and Footwear Corp. v Amplight (1998). He is frequently instructed in cases concerning landlord and tenant (both business and residential), contracts for sale of land, boundary disputes, adverse possession, easements and restrictive covenants. Recent Court of Appeal cases in which he has been instructed on such matters include Shorto v Whitefield and Wheaton (2000) (adverse possession) and Merer v Fisher (2003) (right of pre-emption).
More general areas of his practice are exemplified by reported cases including Foalquest v Roberts (1990) (agency), National Westminster Bank Plc v Daniel & Ors (1993) (affidavit evidence at summary judgment hearings), Geraghty & Co (a firm) v Awwad and Gustavson (2000) (solicitors' fee agreements) and Jewson Ltd v Kelly (2002) sale of goods.
He is the editor of the Landlord and Tenant and Housing section of The Green Book and also of the Landlord and Tenant division of Butterworths Civil Court Precedents. He is a member of the Property Bar Association and, with other members of the Pump Court Chambers Property Team, regularly gives seminars on aspects of property law.
