The Pump Court Criminal Team has a good and longstanding reputation as an experienced and approachable group of professional advocates. We are keen to raise standards and provide a responsible and high quality professional service. We seek to assist our younger members and we cover all types of criminal work, particularly murder, corporate manslaughter, fraud, serious sexual offences, courts martial, regulatory work and work concerned the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002. We have very experienced leaders and juniors and are always looking for outstanding new talented advocates. In a phrase, we believe absolutely in promoting excellence and seek to demonstrate it.

The Family Law Team now provides over 41 specialist practitioners with established and recognised skills that meet the broad diversity and complexity of family law and human rights as they affect family life. Children: Acting for Local Authorities, the Official Solicitor, for parents and for children, most of the team have formidable experience in the areas of adoption, care proceedings, child abduction, the medical treatment of children, private law children proceedings and wardship. Value is given to the need to understand the cultural and religious perspective, to use mediational and non-adversarial approaches, in finding solutions for families in dispute. Divorce and Money: Divorce, civil partnership, pre-nuptial agreements, ADR, cohabition and ancillary relief has always been a strong part of the team's service to their legal and lay clients. The ancillary relief team handles the highest end of the complex money disputes that appear before the High Court and Court of Appeal. It also provides advice and representation to cases which may be lower value but require careful and considerate management, exceelent negotiation and mediation skills and early and cost effective solutions designed to avoid contested hearing.

Regulatory
Pump Court Chambers’ Regulatory Group offers high quality advocacy and advisory expertise in the conduct of regulatory cases. Members of the group, representing all levels of call, regularly appear in a wide range of courts and tribunals acting either for the regulatory/disciplinary authority or the individual/corporate respondent alike. Group members are experienced trial advocates who are able to combine forensic advocacy with an in depth knowledge of their subject areas in regulatory law and practice. Many members also have considerable experience both in crime and common law fields allowing representation in parallel proceedings arising from the same allegations. Members of the group have appeared in a number of leading regulatory cases over the years in both first instance and appellate courts and tribunals. A number of barristers in the group have been appointed to the Attorney General’s panel of prosecution advocates. Members of the group regularly prosecute and defend in criminal proceedings at all levels involving the following prosecution agencies: Health and Safety Executive Revenue and Customs Prosecutions Office Department of Work and Pensions Department of Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Serious Organised Crime Agency Members of the group also regularly act in the following areas: • Trading Standards • Environmental Health • Civil Aviation Authority • Jockey Club Stewards’ Enquiries • Football Association disciplinary matters Group members advise and represent professionals facing disciplinary sanction, inter alia: • Architects • Lawyers • Accountants • Doctors Two members of the group act as Legal Assessors for the General Medical Council. With ongoing seminar programmes delivered both in-house and externally (often through Central Law Training), clients can be confident that group members are conversant with the relevant legislation, case law, standing orders, guidance and codes of conduct and are well positioned to offer a seamless service from investigation to disposal of cases.

Licensed/Public Access
Until 2004 access to expert Barristers was only available with the help of a Solicitor. This has now changed and members of the public and corporate bodies may seek help and instruct directly. All of the members of the team have more than 5 years experience and have expertise in the areas in which they accept work. They are: Charles Parry Alison Russell Peter Asteris Rachel Spearing Heather Platt The areas in which they are able to accept work are: Employment Contract Disputes Discrimination Regulatory Work Private Prosecutions General Property Disputes Personal Injury We are unable to accept work in any Criminal, Immigration or Matrimonial matters. Pricing/Costs All fess charged are based on an hourly rate and the rates vary between individuals within the team. The rates charged will normally be below the rates charged by Solicitors with similar experience. All work will be indicated in a letter prior to its commencement and a fee agreed with you. Work will not begin until you have agreed to the cost. With you undertaking some of the work involved in the case, with guidance, we would expect you to save money over the course of an action when using public access barristers. Help and guidance will be offered during the progression of your case which will be regularly reviewed by the barrister instructed to assess the issues. If at any time it is in your best interests to involve a solicitor then that advice will be given to you.
